Van Gogh often painted the church of Nuenen in the 19th century. he did it in different stages of prosperity; during its glory and after its downfall. the above image shows the auction of parts of the chuch to the inhabitants of Nuenen. They use churchparts to improve their houses and stables. Even the wooden crosses are taken apart and reused. (thanks to Anne Mollema - gemeentewerken Rotterdam)
