“Precious Elements” is an object to express criticism on the unsustainable production and consumption of electronic goods.
The necklace contains 43 charms to represent the elements from the periodic table that build up the materials of an average mobile phone. Little symbols and numbers that are etched into the charms show details on scarcity, toxicity or unethical mining of various metals. Through this object, the impact of the electronics industry becomes visual and tangible. In addition, the old phone becomes a box of precious resources that should be kept in productive use.
